Not So Great-grandmother

If I could ask Kimberly King one question, it wouldn't be who puts down a fifth of Jim Beam while spending the day watching her great grandkids? I already know the answer to that one. She does. The question I'd be asking is what series of unfortunate life choices causes one to be a great-grandmother at the tender age of 50? I'm doing some quick math and my brain is starting to cry.

According to the arrest affidavit, King’s granddaughter left her one and two year old children with King while she went to work.

When the complainant came back four hours later, King was reportedly passed out.

Police say both children had soiled their diapers to the point that the diapers were falling off.

Police found King in the bed where officers shined a flashlight in her face and woke her up.

Police say King had no visible injuries but admitted to drinking a fifth of Jim Beam while the children were in her care.

King has been charged with two counts of child abandonment. NO word on whether she'll be spending any time behind bars rather than in front of them like she seems to be used to.

Boys On The Hood

While this incident from a few weeks back might on some level be sorta fun, I recognize that this one involves a highly dangerous concentration of radioactive retardity.

Two Indiana parents are facing felony child neglect charges after they allegedly drove around with their respective children tied to the hood of a car with a yellow tow strap, police report.

The children--aged 4, 5, 6, and 7--were not harmed during the bizarre incident late yesterday afternoon in Fort Wayne.

The car’s driver, Aaron Stefanski, 29, is the biological father of three of the children. He was arrested on drunk driving and child neglect charges. Passenger Jessica Clark--the mother of the fourth child strapped to the vehicle--was busted for child neglect.

As was the case when last this happened, the kids were tied to the car not as some strange form of punishment, but rather because some drunken adults thought it'd be fun. Or as Stefanski explained it to the nice officer, "I thought they would like it."

Newsflash: Kids like alot of things they shouldn't. That's why adults exist. Well that and because without them there would be no more kids, but you see where I'm heading.

Oh, and this is nice.

A search of the vehicle turned up the tow strap and a "pink backpack that appeared to belong to a juvenile." The backpack contained "two 24oz Magnum cold beers."

No word on whether the beer also belonged to the juvenile, but my money's on yes. Come on, you know all of the screaming for help that would go with being tied to a hood for too long would really dry a kid out.

Not So Hot Wheels

I realize that this is completely stupid and dangerous and that I might have to murder somebody who tried it with my kid especially given the condition they were in at the time, but the kid part of me still thinks it would be pretty awesome and fun.

The grandparents of a seven-year-old Florida girl were arrested yesterday after they allegedly got drunk and used their SUV to tow the child while she was seated in a plastic Hot Wheels car.

Paul Berloni, 49, and Belinda Jean Berloni, 47, were busted Sunday afternoon after a sheriff’s deputy spotted them pulling the girl’s toy car, which was attached to the SUV by a pair of dog leashes. The child, who was not injured, was only wearing a swimsuit “and had no protective gear on whatsoever,” according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office report.

A deputy estimated that the Hot Wheels car was traveling between 5-10 miles per hour when a traffic stop was executed. Paul Berloni, who was driving the SUV, reeked of booze, had watery and bloodshot eyes, and his speech was “slowed and slurred.” When asked for his driver’s license, Berloni said that it was “revoked for 10 years for a DUI.”

Belinda Berloni was riding in the vehicle’s cargo area “with the rear hatch open cheering the child on as she was being pulled behind the vehicle.” Berloni--who a deputy noted was also drunk--stated that “it was dangerous to drag a child behind the vehicle,” but that “they were just having fun and had been doing this all day.”

If you're looking for some babysitting work, I have a funny feeling that a position may have just opened up.

Grandma and Grandpa have both been slapped with child cruelty charges, and Grandpa, as you might expect, also got dinged for drunk driving and driving with a suspended licence.

Ahh So We Left A Kid. Big Deal, We Have More

One of the questions some parents seem to struggle with is how many kids do I want, and how will I know when enough is enough? The answer varies from family to family, but I think we can all agree that when you can take all 10 of yours and 9 of their friends to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese and then forget to bring the birthday girl home and not realize it until the next morning, you've hit your limit.

According to cops, the 32-year-old woman, who has not been identified, had gone to Chuck E. Cheese last Thursday evening to celebrate the five-year-old girl’s birthday. Along with her 10 children, nine other kids attended the celebration.

At the party’s conclusion, the woman somehow left the birthday girl behind at the restaurant. After the child was discovered by restaurant employees around 11 PM, she was unable to provide any details that allowed cops to figure out the identities of her parents (or how to contact them). As a result, the girl was placed in emergency custody.

It wasn’t until Friday at about 8 AM--nine hours after she departed Chuck E. Cheese--that the mother called 911 to report that her daughter was missing. The girl’s MIA status was discovered as the woman was preparing her children for school.

The girl is still living with child welfare officials, while mommy dearest is now the subject of two separate investigations. One by the sheriff’s department to probe possible child endangerment and one by the aforementioned child welfare officials that needs no further explanation.

A Post With A Bunch Of Stuff In It Just To Show You We're Alive

So...this place sure has been hopping lately, eh? Yeah...about that. I'm sorry. Really, I am. But to be honest, it can't be helped, and I can't say when it's going to get better.

I don't want to get into a whole lot of specifics, so I'll leave it at this: There are a few things going on around here that are making dick jokes, bad music, random videos and stories about retarded people doing even more retardeder things seem much less important than usual. To those of you who know what's been happening, thanks for the support. To the rest of you, hang in there. We're not trying to be lazy asses, That's just how it's had to be for a while.

By the way, remind me never to have a sleep-related brain snap around the same time as a very stressful ongoing event. It doesn't end well, I'm finding.

Now...what can I tell you that you might not already know?

If you're James McGhee, you don't seem to know that wearing a shirt with best dad written on it in your sex offender registry photo isn't the best idea you've ever come up with, especially since you needed that photo because of a little thing called sexual exploitation of a minor.

If you're Misty Lawson, you may not know how much trouble punching your 10-year-old son a few times during a visit with an anger management counselor will get you in, even if the kid might be a little shit.

If you're Vince Russo, you most definitely do not know how cocksuckingly horrible you are at your job about 98% of the time. You may, however, be aware of the celebrations being thrown by wrestling fans upon hearing the news that you've finally been relieved of it. If anything was going to make me feel happy enough to write again at least for a moment, it's this.

"TNA and Vince Russo have mutually parted ways as of this week. The separation is amicable and professional. We are glad for the opportunity to have worked together and wish each other nothing but good luck and success in the future."

Here's to success meaning that he opens up another video store and stays away from the wrestling business he's helped ruin for good. Good riddance to whatever it is that books worse than bad rubbish.

If you're WWE, you have no idea how sad I am and how much I kind of hate you guys right now for taking the Funkasaurus away from me. He was different and he was fun, both things that your product mostly hasn't been in years. Oh well, at least we'll always have the memories.

Somebody call my mama!

If you're the Earl Witty responsible for running the RIDE program, you could, pending the results of the current investigation, soon learn that showing up to work while on the sauce might sound fun on paper, but really isn't all it's cracked up to be. Not very witty of you if I may say so, officer.

And finally, if you're lots of people, you might not know that the 6Dot Braille Labeler that Carin made mention of a while ago is out of the development stage and ready to be ordered! On the list of blind folk gadgets I'd like to own, this one ranks pretty high. I'm saying this sight unseen, by the way. Yes, I do hear you chuckling at that, sighted person. Carry on.

And for now, I think I'm going to make that everything. You all should be well and learned up now, I hope. We'll try to check in soon, whenever that is.

You're Gonna Bite The Biscuit, Son! Not That You Could, Since You Let Them Burn To A Crisp!

Question: How does a quiet breakfast with the family turn into dad tustling with you, biting your finger, smashing a platter over your head and then threatening to kill you with the meat cleaver he's pressing against your neck?
Answer: Your dad is Harry A. Woods and you didn't watch the damned biscuits and now they're burned, that's how.

According to police (and a criminal information), Woods became angry after the biscuits were burned in the oven of his East Alton home. The biscuits had been placed in the oven by Woods’s teenage daughter, who told family members to keep an eye on them before she departed for a relative’s home.

That reminder, however, apparently fell on deaf ears. Which upset Woods, who got into an argument with his son, who apparently was less concerned about the singed baked goods. The younger Woods, Keshner reported, told his father, “They’re just burnt biscuits, we’ll make more.”

We'll make more isn't the sort of thing you tell a 6 foot, 350 pound hungry 43-year-old man, so the fight was on.

Woods was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond. Are you kidding? Judging from the reaction, $20,000 is probably a week's worth of groceries for this guy!

Hahaha! I Put Tape Over Your Face...Book!

Every family has its own strange dynamics that others may not understand. What seems like mean spirited behaviour or child abuse to one might be game night to another. For that reason, I have no problem with the idea that there may come a point in the parent child relationship when binding and gagging your kids with tape and hanging one of them upside down from a piece of gym equipment could be clasified as "all in fun.," However, when the kids are ages two years and ten months, that time has more than likely not arrived.

The young parents, Frankie and Kayla Almuina, are facing charges of child abuse after one of the mother’s Facebook friends anonymously tipped off the Arizona Child Abuse Hotline.

According to Reuters, the couple’s 2-year-old boy and a 10-month old girl were shown on the mother’s Facebook page with duct tape on their wrists and ankles and with their mouths taped shut. The boy was also pictured hanging upside down from an exercise machine.

The parents told police the photos were “all in fun,” but a sheriff’s department official said the children appeared to be “in sheer terror.”

Investigators seized about a dozen similar photos from the Almuina home and arrested the couple. Their children were turned over to another family member, while the parents were sent to jail.

And they're not the only ones. From the very same article, we also have this recent story.

According to CNN, a 21-year-old Chicago man is facing charges of aggravated domestic battery after posting a picture of his 22-month-old daughter, who was bound with painter’s tape across her mouth, her wrists and ankles, with a caption "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back. ; )."

I just...I don't know. So many well adjusted people (myself included) are probably never going to have their own kids, but imbeciles like these can have as many as they want. Seems more wrong than usual some days.

Shirley Not!

I should be asleep, but I'm a fool.

I'm trying to drag myself out of an epic news Twitter hole, the result of not looking at it for days due to work. And...I found this horrible update.

Remember Shirley Anderson? That woman who abandoned her kids and then tried to make them take care of her because she's old? Well, a judge says her case can be heard. Ridiculous. I hope it's rejected. By the sounds of it, these kids have been through enough.

The Whole Medieval Thing Will Be A Lot Less Fun If They're Sentenced That Way

As far as discipline goes, this is...different.

Fremon and Julie Seay have been arrested and the three children in their home have been removed and are staying with family members. Why? Well, it goes like this.

Julie Seay's 16-year-old daughter went to a party without permission, pretty standard teenaged stuff that often brings some form of punishment. Such punishment usually includes things like groundings, loss of privileges or even the odd sign-carrying public shaming if things really get out of hand. But some punching, a whooping with a tree branch and then a two hour wooden sword fight complete with medieval armour? That's a new one.

According to police, the teen was forced her to dress in armor and fight Fremon Seay with a wooden sword for two hours. Police also said Seay punched and beat his stepdaughter with a tree branch prior to the duel. Investigators said she collapsed from exhaustion.

Investigators learned the couple is part of a group of Renaissance enthusiasts, who recreate fights from the medieval era.

I can only assume this since the article doesn't say, but it seems like even though old Fremon here did most of the combat work, Julie was arrested for not doing anything to put a stop to it and possibly even encouraging it. Even better, she works for a daycare. Another assumption, but perhaps not for long.

the daughter, though badly bruised, is expected to recover...in a physical sense at least.

Designated Daughter

How much trash can you really talk about this guy? I mean sure he got hammered and let his 9-year-old drive him to a variety store at 3 in the morning in his work van, but the kid was in a booster seat so at least he's looking out for her safety, right?

The videotape obtained by The Associated Press shows the van pulling up to the station and walking in with his daughter. He told an unseen clerk that she was driving him around because he had been drinking.

“I got a designated driver,” the man said.

The AP is not naming the father in order to protect the identity of his daughter.

The girl told police that her father had been drinking whiskey all night. She said he had allowed her to drive before.

Those other times must have gone pretty well, since the girl seemed kind of surprised that she was stopped.

"What did you stop me for? I was driving good," she reportedly asked the officer.

It might have been her first brush with the law, but it certainly wasn't dad's, as it turns out.

The father, who told officers he was teaching his daughter to drive, was arrested and refused a Breathalyzer test, Grant said. He was charged with second- and fourth-degree child abuse during an Oct. 10 arraignment. He was ordered to have no contact with his daughter.

He also was charged with being a habitual offender and could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The habitual offender charge stems from convictions on four previous felonies, including receiving and concealing stolen property and unarmed robbery, Grant said.

He was convicted of driving while intoxicated in connection with an October 2007 crash in Wyandotte and had his license restricted for a year, Michigan Secretary of State spokesman Fred Woodhams told the Free Press.

Show And Tell Indeed!

Here's a new one for ya. Do you remember being in kindergarten, and having Show and Tell? You brought in something from home, held it up to the class, and talked about what it was. Well, one kindergartener brought some things in for Show and Tell that were not your average items. They were a crack pipe and an ounce of meth. He never made it into the classroom with the drugs and pipe. The teacher got very curious about his items, and soon police were coming to take mommy dearest, AKA Michelle Marie Cheatham, off to have a little talk.

What I would love to know is what the kid would have said had he made it into the classroom with it. Did he know what the items were for? Or what interesting explanation would he have given? I mean, I'm glad things got yoinked before we reached that point, but it made me very curious.

Another bit of curious wording was this.
A family friend at Cheatham's home told KCTV5 that the boy is now being cared for by loved ones.
This implies that Cheatham was not a loved one...at least it does to me.

And why do we care what the police dog's name is? Really, how many times does that happen?

Hopefully the poor little guy wasn't too traumatized by the end result of his bringing in exhibits A and B. And hopefully there's still time to put things on the right path for him.

And They're Off!...To Jail...And The Hospital...

Just reading what went down in this story has me laughing, because a little movie has started to form in my head of how it might have happened. Come on, the imagination gets working any time a burglary involves a pregnant woman getting stuck in a ventilation system.

So let's set the scene. Two dudes, 1 19 years of age and the other 42, and this unidentified pregnant woman are driving along. La dee da dee dee...crunch! They hit a curb, and manage to hit it so hard that they totally ruin two of their tires! So, there they are, sitting on the side of the road, what to do, what to do. Then the idea, it occurs to them. "Let's break into that race track over there and get to the money room and steal some dough! Yeah!"

As for their idea of how to get in without alerting security, they decide to go through the ventilation shaft and then run run run to the money room!

Then they must have realized that neither of the big dudes would fit, or their friend who was five months pregnant offered to skitter through the shaft. "Yeah!"

So they pick her up and get her into the ventilation system through a crawl space in the ceiling...but the ceiling tiles aren't designed for supporting weight...and...they start to collapse around her in two places.

So much for sneakery. They make enough noise that security comes to see what's up and call police. The dudes get arrested immediately, but they have to work to talk her down, and then she said she might be going into labour, so they take her to the hospital.

What a trio of toolchests! And what does that say for the kid's future?

Hopefully There Will Be No Parental Encore For These People

If this little fellah grows up hating music, nobody should be surprised.

The parents earned notoriety in Germany last month when they drove more than 435 miles (700 kilometers) from the home in Neumunster, northern Germany, to the southern city of Stuttgart to attend a concert. They placed the baby boy in the trunk of the car, among discarded diapers, food and dirty laundry.

Passersby heard the sound of a baby screaming and alerted police. But when an announcer at the concert asked the parents to make themselves known, they did not respond. Police eventually smashed their way into the vehicle and saved the child, who was sweating badly and was hospitalized.

The 18-year-old mother says this shouldn't really be any sort of big deal, since she parked in the shade and left a window open. Oh, and she'd also like her kid returned from foster care, please.

Wait...a window? Unless the trunk is one of those deals where you can reach into it from the back seat, leaving the window down won't mean shit. The trunk is an entirely separate part of the car, and it's kind of, um, completely enclosed. And even if it is one of the more open ones, it's still not going to mean much.

And while we're here, who drives around with old food and diapers just hanging out in the back of their car?

Not only should their kid not be returned from foster care, but mom and dad could probably benefit from being placed in it, too.

If You Don't Stop Crying You're Going To Drown In Your Tears...And Possibly The Harbour

You expect to see a lot of things on a sightseeing tour boat. But I'd wager that one sight you wouldn't expect to see is some jackass throwing his 7-year-old son over the side of one. Or at least I would have wagered that until Sloane Briles came along.

Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office, told the Los Angeles Times Briles apparently had been drinking when he got into an argument with his girlfriend while on a Sunday harbor cruise with more than 80 other passengers.

Authorities said their argument was witnessed by his two sons from a previous marriage, the 7-year-old and a 6-year-old.

Witnesses said the older boy, visibly upset, was walking behind his father when Briles allegedly struck him several times, then picked him up and threw him overboard. Briles then jumped over the side himself.

The boy was fished out by a passing boater.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, Briles was combative and resisted arrest, Amormino said.

It's worth noting that more than one version of the story says that Briles only jumped in after the kid once he was already being saved by other people. Thanks, dad.

Briles was taken into custody on suspicion of child endangerment and for resisting arrest. He was later released after posting bond. The kids, meanwhile, were returned to their mother.

This would normally be where the story ends, but not today.

When Sloane Briles was interviewed by KTLA on Tuesday, he noted that he was “not trying to kill [his son].” Instead, he insists that they “were playing in the shallows.”

In addition, he claimed that he and his son discussed together prior to the boat tour that they would jump overboard.

A fine story I suppose, other than the small problem of all the witnesses and his helpful girlfriend who's story is the same, but different.

His girlfriend, Jennifer Burrelli, defended his actions in an interview with the
New York Daily News, denying that she and her boyfriend had an argument and said that her boyfriend and his son were only “roughhousing” and that he made a “stupid” judgment to throw him overboard, which is a different story than what Briles is now claiming.

“His sons are his whole life,” she said. “He would never ever do anything to hurt them on purpose. He knows now it could have gone badly. He doesn’t even care about the arrest or his own name. He knows it was stupid.”

That last sentence could likely represent the only bit of absolute truth we should be expecting from this pair.

Hot Sauce Lady Goes From The Bottle To The Can

Remember the hot sauce lady from Dr. Phil? I did say she would always be known as that. she's been convicted, although her lawyer's pushing for no jail time, and it doesn't sound like the kids are going to get much help.

I blame Dr. Phil's producers partly for this, if things went down the way she says they did. She claims she approached them saying she was an angry mom. She sent in a video and they said she wasn't actually punishing her kid so it wasn't good enough. And that's when she made the hot sauce video.

But seriously, woman, do you think Dr. Phil is the only place you can go for help? Are there no resources in Alaska? And do you really think you're showing good parenting skills by getting your 10-year-old daughter to film for you?

And you adopted kids who were sleeping in a shack and then were taken to an orphanage. Expect that there are going to be some behavioural problems. Punishment is not going to fix it. How about getting to the root of the problem?

Well, there's the end of that story. Not much of an end, but there it is.

Tomato, Tomahto, Lighter, Revolver, Let's Shoot Your Right Arm Off

A woman in Banning, California, had better be getting her daughter one awesome Christmas present this year to try making good for mistaking a gun-shaped object she found on the ground for a novelty cigarette lighter and shooting her with it.

Rachel Avila, 30, and her daughter were talking in front of their mobile home Sunday when Avila spotted what she thought was a novelty cigarette lighter lying on the ground, said officials with the Banning Police Department.

It was shaped like a miniature firearm, police said.

Avila picked up the object and tried to light it by pulling the trigger, police said.

The first time, nothing happened, but her second attempt released a 22-calibre bullet.

“The bullet struck the ground, and then ricocheted upward and entered her daughter’s upper right arm,” Banning police said in a statement.

The girl was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but later released.

Police, meanwhile, figured out that the lighter in question was actually a "North American Arms, 22-calibre, derringer style revolver." They also warned residents to call police instead of messin' around with gun-lookin' stuff they find outside. Well, they actually put it a little differently, I'm just making sure the message's target audience understands it.

Hey Kids. How About Instead Of The Park Today We Go Out And Shoot Things? Sound Fun?

I was having so much fun with people on Twitter today, and then this came along.

Kelowna RCMP are shaking their heads after a mother let her five children shoot pellet guns from their moving vehicle.

The mother admits she was aware of what they were doing, but thought they were just shooting at road signs.

A man living on Geen Road in Kelowna says the kids pointed the gun at him and shot his vehicle as their vehicle passed. He called police at 2:30 p.m Tuesday.

Listen. It's long weekend time. I'm already on my second beer. I shouldn't have to sit here and break down everything wrong with what you just read. If you need it explained to you, you need a hysterectomy or male equivalent performed on you, preferably with a fork and no sleepy gas.

Happy Holiday for Reasons Unknown But We'll Take It Day, Canada. Don't do anything as stupid as this while I'm gone, ok?

These Two Should Think About Moving To Failureberg

If that old saying about looking up things in the dictionary and finding pictures beside them were true and if a picture dictionary existed containing a definition for complete fucking trainwreck, Juliette Dunn may well be found there.

Police said they spotted Dunn and Jefferson sitting at the playground, the young children on the ground next to them. As officers approached them, police said they spotted an empty 40-ounce bottle of Steel Reserve beer on the ground beside the boy. They said a baby bottle next to the baby contained a dark liquid that smelled strongly of an alcohol beverage. Dunn was identified as the children's mother.

Police said witnesses told them that Jefferson had handed the bottle of beer to the boy and ordered him to chug it. When he had finished it police said Jefferson called the boy an alcoholic.

Both children were taken to Bridgeport Hospital where police said both the boy and girl tested positive for alcohol and the 10-month-old also had cocaine in her system. While being examined, police said the 4-year-old told a social worker he likes, "Natural Ice beer, Budweiser beer, but didn't like the taste of Dog-Bite beer."

Jefferson is Lisa Jefferson, a friend of Dunn's who apparently gives the 4-year-old a beer every day. Dunn seems to have no trouble with this arrangement, but is perplexed as to how her daughter tested positive for cocaine because, as she told police, she doesn't breast feed her.

Both dunn and Jefferson were charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child and two counts of second-degree assault. they're both in custody on $100000 bonds.

And all of this, it's worth noting, took place in Success Village. People often ask what's in a name? In this case, I think it's pretty safe to say nothing.

She Was Milking That Breastfeeding Mother Thing For All It Was Worth

Here's another sign that I'm either losing my touch, or I've seen one too many weird news stories.

It was all over the net. Har har, it was also all over her car, but ya know. Anyway, the story of Stephanie Robinette was everywhere.

I guess she and her husband were at a wedding, and then she got a little tipsy. And then a little angry. And then a little slap happy...at which point hubby called the cops. When they showed up, she had locked herself inside the car, and would not come out. When they decided to physically take her from the car, she unleashed one of her boobs and sprayed the cops and her car with breast milk. I guess she took lessons from Toni Tramel

And I thought I read somewhere that she's a school teacher! Hmmm.

Prickly Situation

I saw this a little while ago and knew I wanted to post about it. But my brain still was pretty fried, so nothing happened.

I'm sure lots of times, parents have said they'll kick their kids out of their car and leave them behind. Of course, they won't do it. Well, this parent did. The poor little guy. Not only was he thrown from the car, but he was covered in cactus needles. Luckily, somebody saw him and got him to a hospital.

Ow ow ow. Oh yeah, and ow.
